Just Be Books
Just Be Books contains a children’s book series which will be used as a tool in childhood development to open up the conversation about mental health. Her first book in the series “Just Be” highlights the ‘okayness’ of sadness while teaching coping skills.
In addition to the book series, Paris has worked with Drexel Students to develop plush toy apples of the main character. The plush toys show different emotional expressions to convey the idea that someone is allowed to be happy AND sad. (We are allowed to experience multiple emotions at once! It is human to do so!) Additionally, a seed packet will come with each plush toy so the family can grow a plant together.
Later plans include a Children’s Empowerment Kit which will include the book series, plush toys, and additional downloadable material like coloring pages and lesson plans. With the help of Temple Student, Rebecca Lee, Just Be Books will also research how mental health (social emotional learning) is being addressed in current elementary school curriculum.
